CONPLOT CONTOUR PLOTTER (IBM & compatibles) CAT.# 168-D01-36
CONPLOT is a general-purpose contour plotter which allows engineers,
scientists, surveyors, mathematicians, or anyone with (X, Y, Z) data or
functions, to easily create clear and intelligible contour plots.
CONPLOT accepts user input in several forms:
1. Multi-line functions written in BASIC.
2. XYZ data entered from the keyboard.
3. ASCII numeric data files (e.g.,from word processor or spreadsheet).
4. Previously saved contour plots.
Data to be plotted is not necessarily limited to rectangular arrays.
Scattered data (e.g., irregularly spaced sea soundings) can be preprocessed
using a two-dimensional interpolation/extrapolation routine to give any
desired rectangular grid (up to 80 by 80 data points; the contour plot uses
much higher resolution than that).
CONPLOT offers considerable flexibility in the actual plotting process.
Besides being able to save and recall previous plots, you may plot data with
a wide range of contour conditions. You can choose the number of contour
lines to be used, the starting and ending contour levels, and linear or
logarithmic spacing. The contour line specifications can be completely
edited, allowing the highlighting of specific contours, or irregular
spacings. Contour line specifications may be saved on disk and recalled for
other plots. An additional feature is the nonlinear scaling of both the X and
Y axes. Several transformation functions are available, including logarithms,
exponentials , trigonometrics , etc. Although CONPLOT automatically adjusts
the grid spacing for plotting , you may freely and independently stretch or
shrink either axis. Also, a "zoom" feature is available. In addition, array
data files may be "viewed" on the screen to aid in identifying features and
contours.
The CONPLOT package also includes several interesting and very educational
demonstration programs. One solves Poisson's equation to give the voltage
field around a house next to a radio tower. Another does the same, but for a
"real" parallel plate capacitor (you can choose various plate spacings).
Another allows plotting depth contours based on scattered sounding data.
CONPLOT includes a detailed 120-page manual which is very tutorial in nature.
The system operation is fully described. The demonstration programs and
examples are discussed in detail, both in terms of interpreting the sample
contour plots, as well as how the demonstration programs (written in BASIC)
may be modified. Requires 128K of RAM, BASICA or GWBASIC), MS DOS 2.0 or
higher, and a color graphics card.
