RESONANCE / ROTARY SHAFT (IBM only) CAT # 112-D01-38
RESONANCE is a software package for determining the resonant frequencies of
a rotating shaft or beam, and what the corresponding mode shapes look like.
It provides a means for designing systems which, for example, have minimum
vibrations (nodes) at bearing locations; resonances away from the rotation
or loading frequencies; reinforcements at maximum stress fatigue points;
have safeguards against whipping; etc. In short, use RESONANCE if you have
a beam or shaft where you are concerned about vibration.
The shaft or beam model is easily built using a menu-driven design module and
may have multiple steps in cross section, diameter, and material ( e.g.,
round, hollow, hexagonal, steel, magnesium, etc.). Models may be saved to
disk for later recall and modification. The design model can be scanned for
resonances under 9 common combinations of end conditions (fixed, simply
supported, free). You specify the frequency range you are interested in, and
RESONANCE will tell you where the resonances are.
For each resonance found, you may plot the mode shape and send it to your
printer. By changing materials and cross section, you can interactively move
the modes around to achieve a better design.
The current version can treat shafts with up to 5 spans, and the ends may be
overhung.
RESONANCE comes complete with a 53-page manual. It requires 256K of RAM, MS
DOS 2.0 or higher, and a printer is recommended, but optional.
