Recently,
in Pakistan, a young man came across two dogs fighting over a small package.
As he saw movement in the mysterious package, he quickly shoed the dogs
away and opened the mysterious parcel. In shock, he found a baby girl with
tape wrapped tightly around her mouth to prevent her from crying. She was
hours old but minutes away from certain death. He took her to a neighbor
who knew a new mother that would give this child fresh sustenance and food.
In
time he wished to claim the baby girl but this new mother alleged that
she had nurtured the child so it was, in fact, hers. This matter was brought
to a Pakistani court and the judge insisted the mother was a prostitute
and did not deserve to have the child in question; the child belonged to
the Pakistani gentleman. This man took the child and is now giving her
an excellent future filled with friends, family and education.
This story, as just reported by the BBC News Service (June
10,'00), highlights how dire the consequences could have been for this
small child. It admires the gentleman who went out of his way to save this
little child--only hours old but minutes away from death. And it is by
no merit of our own that we are more than a few hours old, years or even
decades. There are many children that have been tossed aside and alas,
we could have been one of them. But God in His goodness, allowed us this
privilege to be here right now enjoying and sharing in the riches of our
world.

The
story also points to another Savior who also came to give us better future.
In so many ways we try to reach God on our own efforts, such as good
life, philosophy or religion. Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth,
and the life; no one comes to Father, but through Me" (John 16:6).
So if we confess with our lips that Jesus is
Lord and believe in our Heart that God raised him from the dead, God
will claim us (Romans 10:9). He promises us hope for there are wonderful
plans in store for you and me (Isaiah 41). Consider Him today.
