I
wrote a Daily Wisdom in September on "How I Met Willy." In that Daily Wisdom,
I had not included one important aspect of Willy; I just wrote about his
pornography problem.
But, Willy
not only had problems with pornography, he had an emotional problem. You
see, he felt sorry for himself; he had self-pity. Many times he would say
to himself, "Life stinks!" Feeling sorry for himself caused him to seek
gratification in something else and that was, "The World of Pictures." When
Willy realized that he had this emotional problem, he could see that this
caused him to have the secondary problem. Thus, one emotional problem gave
him another.
Friend, is it possible that we have Willy's first problem,
that is, self-pity? Under our breath and away from society, alone in our
car or bedroom, we sorrowfully say, "Life stinks. I do not deserve this!
Why do I have to get the short end of the stick? Maybe God is out to get
me? Well, I was born this way." We walk around with a chip on our shoulders
but give a smile to the world around us like everything is splendid and
fine. Perhaps our partner is rubbing us the wrong way or a fellow at work
makes life miserable. Maybe you are in jail, divorced, separated or have
been financially ruined and you think bitter thoughts. |

What
Willy told me intrigued me. God cannot work in our lives and mend our
socks of life if we keep putting our foot down, insisting that "life stinks."
He would love to do something more in our lives but we stubbornly keep
both feet on the ground hindering those socks from being taken off and
fixed.
What Willy had to do was realize his sin of self-pity,
confess it to God and ask for His forgiveness. Then God took away that
emotional problem in his life and he could experience the joy of His salvation.
Of course, it took a while for everything to work out but indeed, Willy
is a freer man now. As Psalm 51:10 says, "Create in me a clean heart,
O God, and put a new and right spirit within me."
Do you have self-pity in your life? Confess it to God
and ask for His forgiveness. He will take it away as well as any other
secondary problems. He will renew a right spirit within you!
