On
November 7, 1998, 77-year old John Glenn became the oldest astronaut to
successfully return to planet Earth. Glenn was a former fighter pilot who
in 1962 became the first American launched into orbit.
John reminisced about a memory he cherished back in 1962
when he viewed planet Earth in it's silent projection around the Sun. Such
a glorious creation. Only God could have designed such a masterpiece of
beauty and harmony. He was reminded of Psalm 8:3,4. "When I consider
your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you
have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man
that you care for him?"
You may not have the opportunity to be launched into orbit
and fathom what John Glenn experienced. God created planet Earth but we
all know that man has sinned and destroyed part of this glorious creation.
Yet, God created another beauty by sending His only Son, Jesus Christ to
save man from his sin so he can truly enjoy the life that He meant for us.
During the Christmas Season, we are reminded that Jesus,
our Savior, came down to Earth in the form of a baby. He grew up as you
and I but died on the cross to rectify our situation so that we can have
new meaning in life, a life of beauty. In John 1:12 Jesus says that
if we receive Him, we can become children of God, if we believe on His Name. |

I would encourage
you to listen as Jesus knocks on the door of your life, asking if He can
come in. Then you can experience the faith that John Glenn echoed 350
miles above the earth. That is a real keepsake!
Does this sound out of this world? I ask you to pray this prayer:
"God, when I think of your heavens, the moon, this earth, the stars
and my life and how you set them all in place with your fingers, I
know that you care for me and want the best for me. I ask that You
come into my life and give me new hope. I thank You for Christmas,
for coming to this Earth in the form of a baby. I thank You for Easter
for dying on the cross for my sins. Make me the kind of person You
want me to be. Amen!" |
